Almost the last post on Savannah

Saturday night we went to Elizabeth on 37 street. Andrew and Taylor read about this restaurant in the book A Thousand Places to See Before You Die. That is one of the reasons we picked Savannah to visit on my full weekend with them. Our reservation was for 6:30. We left at 8:00. It was not packed but full.

Andrew had Savannah Red Rice. He enjoyed it. It had a BIG after flavor glow- in lay terms that means that it is spicy.

Taylor and I had the Red Snapper. It was the best fish I have every had. Taylor concurs.
This was in the bathroom. After Andrew saw this, we realized that the owner had waited on us. He is the man in the picture that is standing.
On Sunday we toured the 8th Air Command Museum. Andrew saw the museum while on a business here and wanted to go back. I had no idea what we were going to see. The 8th air command was based in Savannah.
Here is chart of where the different commands served during WWII
Here is a bit of history about the 8th Air Force
Jimmy Doolittle was a commander of the 8th.
There were lots of interesting things in the museum. Here is a B-17 that they are restoring. I liked the film clip of the ground crew. The men who took care of the planes during WWII and 'let' the pilots fly them for their missions and then fixed the planes when they got back. They have a mock up of a 'safe house' where soldiers were hidden after they landed behind enemy lines. In the safe house they have pictures of the folks who had hidden soldiers and showed ways that houses and barns were refitted to hide folks.
We stayed several hours in the museum and could have stayed longer but our tummy's and needing to get back to Valdosta made us leave. I highly recommend Elizabeth on 37th and the 8th Air Force museum.
