Food Fenway and Fun Part II

We had beautiful weather for our trip which was so nice because ...
I am a nervous flyer and my friend here fastens his seat belt and then does this!  He does hold my hand when I need him too.
In Atlanta Carl let Andrew have his seat and he sat a few seats behind us.  Andrew and I looked out the window- we saw NYC, we listened to my music and we visited.
Our first restaurant-
We got three different plates and shared the food.  The brisket was my favorite.
This is inside our motel.  It looked magical.

We ate Cannoli and Lobster Tail and Boston Cream Pie cupcakes- YUM
This restaurant is called Bogie's.  It is reservation only!  Ours was for 9:00 pm. There is room for about 12 folks in the place at one time.  It is in the back of another restaurant and they serve steak and sides.  It was one of the best steaks I've even eaten.  Andrew is not put off by what I consider shady places and this one looked shady to me and I was out of my comfort zone but the food was amazing. That was the end of our first day and I slept well that night!  Saturday we went to the Museum of Fine Art.  Pictures tomorrow !

Chilhuly glass

A few weeks ago Carl had a business trip to Vancouver, BC and Kaitlin and I were able to tag along! It was cheaper to fly into Seattle and then drive up.  We were able to go to the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum in Seattle before we drove up to Vancouver.  It was amazing.  This is all blown glass.  The museum has lots of benches so that one can sit down, relax and take in the beauty and the wonder and the creativity.
 The above is a ceiling.

The day was beautiful to enjoy the glass that was outside in the garden too.
Chihuly has an exhibit at the Clinton Library until January 5th.  I highly recommend that you enjoy this beautiful art.

Cousins, cousins and Camp Monroe Vacation Part IV

On Saturday the 29 we got up and went to breakfast at a place in town that Carl found.  It was outstanding and I highly recommend it.  Doesn't my breakfast look yummy??

For lunch we headed to the Monroe family reunion at ... Camp Monroe
Carl and his brother, Raymond, helped with some of the food preparation.  Their cousin, Fud, prepared all the food and it was good, southern and yummy.
Here I am with Carl's cousin, Becky!
Here is cousin Eva Ruth giving us details about lunch.  Eva and I had grandsons born the same week and year.  What a fun bond to have with her!
Here is the circle that was formed to say the blessing for lunch.
Camp Monroe is in Scotland county so named because of the great concentration of Scots that settled here.  Lots of Presbyterians here too!
Kaitlin has a cousin named Kaitlin Monroe- isn't that cool???  The other Kaitlin couldn't be at the reunion this year but her mama was.  Here is a picture of Kaitlin with Kaitlin's mother.
Eva gave a tour of the camp.  Here is a cabin.  They are made out of cyprus trees from the camp.  Carl attended camp here one summer.
Here is Lake Andrew at the camp.
After our great visit at the camp we came back to our motel.  Grandma and 5 of her 6 children and families stayed at the same motel.  We took over the pool went swimming that afternoon.  The cousins plus an Uncle or two did a few tricks in the pool.  I believe I see a few non-Monroe legs in this picture too.  We are an inclusive group!
Here is our jumping in the pool picture!
We had a few chicken fights!
Here we are with Andrew and Taylor.  They joined us on Saturday.  It was great to see them.
We had a great vacation!  We are blest with a great family.  I am glad to be home but I am sure I'll be ready for the next reunion.

Daniel and Rebecca take a trip, Part I

I married Daniel Boone.  I married a man that loves to travel and he married a girl that loves to stay home.  I love being Rebecca Boone.  My job is to hold down the fort while Daniel is out in the wilderness exploring new things.  Now that the children are grown, Daniel likes for Rebecca to join him on a trip every now and again.  Another problem is that Rebecca does NOT like to fly.

Well, Daniel and Rebecca Carl and I headed off last week to the California!!!!  We first flew to Houston and then to Oakland.  Houston to Oakland is a LONG flight!
The great thing Carl did about our flights was that I didn't have to change planes.  Because of my back I am unable to walk thru an airport without resting many, many times.  Most times the folks that push the wheel chairs are wonderful but I have also had The Grinch's brother and that leaves an impression on you and not a good one!
Here I am on the ground in Houston with the 4 other folks from LR that are also flying to Oakland.  Darren McFadden- former AR running back that now plays for Oakland Raiders- was one of the four.  I thought I recognized him in the line to board and then Houston Nutt- former AR coach- got off the plane we were to board and fondly greeted him.

My sweet Kaitlin made me a wonderful playlist.  It helped with the turbulence.
Here is the van Carl rented.

Here is me as we crossed the Bay Bridge.  There were 11 lanes of traffic that had to fit into 4.  I went to my happy place and thanked God Carl was driving!!!!!!!
 Here is the Bay Bridge!
Being the technology sound person that I am I uploaded a video below that I can't delete.  If you can get it to play enjoy!!
 More pictures and stories tomorrow!

Thursday, It must be Mrs Wilkes

Has it been two weeks since we were with Andrew and Taylor? Hard to believe! Two weeks ago today, Carl, Kaitlin and I headed down to some squares in Savannah for Kaitlin to take some pictures and then we planned to meet Andrew for lunch.

This first picture is on the trolley tour of Savannah. I am not sure of the name of the building but the cool thing about the building is the circles you see in the decorations above the semi-circles above the windows. Are you still with me? Do you see them? Well, each circle has a different kind of marble in it and all are found in Georgia. Cool!

Love the Spanish Moss
This monument is where Nathanael Greene is buried. We were introduced to him when we studied the American Revolution when the children were younger. Andrew set out to learn all he could about him. How fitting that Andrew now lives where Nathanael Green is buried. When the American Revolution began he was a militia private, the lowest rank possible, and he emerged from the war with a reputation as George Washington's most gifted and dependable officer. He was given a plantation near Savannah after the war. Eli Whitney was on his plantation and invented the Cotton Gin there.
Here is Kaitlin with her large format camera. The comments we got from other tourists were very funny. They were all impressed with the size of the camera, most of them were using their Iphones to take pictures.

Here is where Andrew wanted to eat lunch. If you ever go to Savannah, put this on your list of places to eat. They are open only from 11-2, they only take cash or checks and the cost is 16.00 a person. We got there at 10:30. We got in to eat at 11:35.

You eat family style with

Kaitlin loved the banana pudding for dessert!
