Feels Like December 26

Marisa and Mr Wonderful and Miss Adorable were able to stay two weeks with us while John did some traveling. They left this morning and my house is so empty and I can feel the sadness of the idle toys and books.

Kaitlin was able to take a week off work and Marisa is so easy so I felt like I had a two week staycation with some of my favorite folks.
We got to see more of Miss Adorable's personality- she is very social. She can be on a blanket for quite awhile as long as she has a book or a friendly face. We got to laugh at all the funny things that Mr W says and does.

Below are a few pictures from our two weeks.  I am warming you there may be more soon!

wn.

We got to Skype with Penny's twin cousin, Adeline, who lives in Birmingham.

I am blest.  I pray for all those grandmothers who don't get to see their wonderful grands.

Miss Adorable, swinging really high and St Louis

This past weekend Carl and I were able to go to St Louis and meet our new granddaughter.  How precious to meet someone so new.

Here is Marisa with her daughter, the fabulous Miss Adorable.  Marisa is holding a print that Kaitlin gave her for Marisa's birthday which was May 17th.  The print is by Mindy Lacefield .  Kaitlin and Marisa both knew Mindy at UALR and now Kaitlin has the privilege of working with her.  Both love her work and this picture made Kaitlin think of Marisa.  Marisa was thrilled to have this print.
Here I am introducing myself to my granddaughter.  I told her that we will play paper dolls and have tea parties and play dressup.   She smiled!
On May 17, 1982 I was in St Louis at this hospital giving birth to Andrew.  John and Marisa live near here.  As we drove to the park to take Mr Wonderful we made a quick stop to get this photo on May 17 2014.  32 years- hard to believe.  I am so thankful for all the joy that God has given our family through Andrew.
How do I love Mr Wonderful,? Let me count the ways... I love his little voice and all his words.  I love seeing life through his wonder of it all- birds, dogs and the thrill of swinging.  Gpapa did get that swing too high for me and I did ask him, for my sake, to not push W so high.  There were several children that wanted Gpapa to push them but their mothers said NO.  He was too busy with W anyway!

Since I can't stand and run like he and Gpapa can I would find a bench close by as they played.  Mr Wonderful always kept track of me and if he couldn't see me he would call out Bubbles?  Bubbles?  I would head his way so he could see me then he was okay.  Other children asked their mothers where the bubbles were, saying they heard someone say bubbles?  I just smiled!!!!

Below Mr Wonderful is watching Frozen.  He loves the movie except the part with the monster.  John doesn't miss a beat as he carries on a conversation and provide protection for his son at the same time.  so precious.
Miss Adorable was awake and looking all around!
Below is a moment I caught when Gpapa and W are sliding.  Check out the grins on both their faces.  I hope W always thinks that his Gpapa can do anything!  I just wish you could hear the laughter that these two shared!
I did let Gpapa hold Miss A for a few minutes so she could meet her amazing Gpapa!  All she knows is love and being taken care of and isn't that a wonderful thing and how it should be.
So I am home now and planning our next trip and what I should take to St Louis.  Children are such a great blessing!

25 years and a day!

Marisa and Andrew share the same birthday and that was yesterday.  I gave Andrew a post of his own and today we will honor Marisa.  As I looked back thru my pictures I didn't find any of just Marisa so I plan to change that soon.  (I know this amazing photography).  In this first picture, Marisa and Kaitlin photobombed poor Atticus as he attempted to eat a loaf of bread!
Here is Marisa smiling at her littlest love of her life on Christmas Eve!
Here is a beautiful painting that hangs in my house every December that Marisa painted for me.
Here are Marisa and Kaitlin in Iowa City one blizzard, I mean, one December day during our visit to see cousin Charlie graduate.
Here is a visor that John was trying to decide whether he needed or not.  Not won the day!
My latest painting by Marisa- a four seasons tree.  I love it!
I am so glad that Marisa is in our family.  She has seen me after I got my back injections- crazy was the theme for that day, she has been a little chilly while she swam with the Manatees with us- a little chilly is not the truth: ITWASFREEZING!, she is our fashion police even if Andrew and Carl don't understand, she is a wonderful wife and an amazing mama!

Sweet Girl, I hope your day was fantastic and your 25th year the best ever!

Where were you a year ago?

Hard to believe it has been a year?!?  Happy Anniversary John and Marisa!

Are you a grandfather?

On November 9th John and Marisa found out that they are having a boy.  Atticus Thomas should join us in March.  We all knew, somewhat the the baby would be a boy.  In Carl's family he is one of six children, one daughter and five sons. Each son had a son first and Carl's sister had a daughter first.  Every family has only one daughter except one.  There are 15 grandchildren-10 grandsons and 5 granddaughters.  As the great-grands are appearing, the males are out numbered 3-2 now but Atticus will make it even, but each firstborn great grand has been a boy.
I was excited, Carl was Carl.

Marisa had a blue onesie in the bag for us to see.

I almost made my facebook status on Wednesday "Today I find out if I will be a grandmother or a grandfather"  but a few weeks ago when Andrew got on my account and ranked my children some folks thought that that was really me.  Really, Really?!?  So I refrained incase that would rock their world or they would try to explain it to me but any way... a grandfather it is  :-)

Rust Colored Pants, Gilmore Girls and Bedspreads

In two weeks we will be in the middle of the wedding festivities. We will have lots of family, lots of friends, lots of laughing and lots of new memories. Plus a million new pictures that I will post ASAP.

It was 5 years ago that John and Marisa started dating. Three years ago Marisa's home life fell apart and she needed a place to live. She picked our very quiet and calm home ;) . With John away at school, Kaitlin and I widened our Mother/Daughter duo to include her and we became a trio. She joined us for our lunches out and girls evening in when Carl was away. She made me watch The Housewives of New York, America's Next Top Model and The Gilmore Girls. (I can watch the second two but there is too much drama in those 'housewives' shows for me) The Gilmore Girls was especially fun because that was such a girl thing. If John or Carl were ever home when we were watching they were required to keep total silence if they chose to stay in the room we were in. If not, let's just say , it only happened once and it wasn't pretty.

Marisa began painting my toe nails. No one ever had as nice or as artistic toes as me! She took over the cleaning of the kitchen and if has never looked better. The first dresser she used had the squeakiest drawers and later I leaned that that was a signal between she and Kaitlin, that she was up and the visiting could begin.

I loved hearing the early morning laughter from the girls bathroom as they got ready for class.

Marisa became the fashion police. We are all better dressed because of her influence. Even Carl was not above her disapproving look if what you had on that day didn't look good. I remember the look on his face when she told him the first time that he was not even going to work dressed in the pants he had picked out. (They really didn't match the shirt he had on and she bought him a shirt to match those rust colored pants he dearly loves).

It was fun to shower her with gifts and then in turn, see her do the same to her siblings and cousins.

It was my privilege to see her heal and blossom and now go forth. Oh, but it is hard.

She and John are moving her stuff into the apartment that John is living in little by little. She has here what she needs to for her day to day living but all the extra's she is moving.

Last Saturday as she came past me, with her arms full of her books and things, she paused and said that her room really looked bare. She put down all that she had in her arms and came to me. As we stood hugging, she very quietly said " This is hard." We both cried. It is hard.

I am so thankful that she has come to know this as her home, her safe place, her refugee. I am so thankful that God opened my heart and gave me such a love for Marisa. I am thankful that He provided Kaitlin with such a giving spirit that as soon as Marisa moved in, whatever she needed, if Kaitlin had it, Marisa could use it. I am thankful for Carl and his giving spirit. I am thankful for his willingness to let our home have a constant flow of people in and out.

Yes, it is hard. but this is a good hard. This means that roots were put down, memories made, conflicts worked out all by the grace of God.

I asked Marisa is she wanted to take the bedspread that I gave her two Christmases ago. She said emphatically said "NO!" "That bedspread stays here in my room so when I come home, it will be on my bed." Nuf said

Two more weeks till lots of changes take place. When all the dust settles and all the relatives go home and we find out what new normal is around here, it will be hard. But I am so glad it will be!

What is six months after your birthday? Your half-birthday!

Today is Andrew and Marisa's Half Birthday. And a beautiful day here in Arkansas it is. When Andrew lived at home, November 17th meant a day filled with NO school for anyone, movies that Andrew chose, outside play and his supper of choice, usually lasagna. The movie of choice for many years was The Longest Day.

For some reason Marisa didn't celebrate half-birthdays til she started living with us. Who knew?

I asked Andrew and Marisa what movie would they pick if they could stay home with me today and enjoy their half birthday. Andrew picked The Emperors Club and Marisa pick all the Harry Potter movies (she is excited about seeing the new HP movie that comes out on Friday).

I celebrated their half-birthday by eating breakfast at Mimi's with Kaitlin. I had a coupon for buy one breakfast get one free just for today. I think now I may watch The Longest Day. I got attached to it by watching it for some many years.

28 1/2 and 22 1/2. Wow, they are sure getting old :)

Every little Sparrow so especially Marisa

I really don't understand.

We saw God work in such an amazing way to provide Marisa her car and now this.

Marisa and John were driving in her car when a deer decided to run in front of them. I am thankful that they were not hurt, very thankful. But I still don't understand.

Sweet Marisa, who doesn't really have anything and now her beloved car may be gone.

This morning I met the tow truck driver to give him the key and I just cried as the car was lifted onto his truck.

I am playing The Glad game now
-I am so thankful Carl was home to help me with this
-I am thankful no one was hurt
-I am thankful for Robert, who got a ride back to UCA, so that Marisa could use his car this week
-I am thankful for the kind AAA man who called to check to see if the tow truck got the car and then told me he hoped I had a better day today, I cried
-I am thankful for Twila Paris music because I have it blaring today. I am singing to the top of my lungs with her as she sings God is in Control and He is Exalted.
-I am thankful that God IS in control of all the details of our lives and He meets us right where we are
-I am thankful that God loves Marisa even more than I do and He has her back like I could never have.
-I am thankful for all I am learning through this (not really yet, but I am counting on being thankful for this one)

You might need to see the words to Twila Paris' song God is in Control. I am singing the line over about choosing to remember and never be shaken.

This is no time for fear
This is a time for faith and determination
Don't lose the vision here
Carried away by emotion
Hold on to all that you hide in your heart
There is one thing that has always been true
It holds the world together

God is in control
We believe that His children will not be forsaken
God is in control
We will choose to remember and never be shaken
There is no power above or beside Him, we know
God is in control, oh God is in control

History marches on
There is a bottom line drawn across the ages
Culture can make its plan
Oh, but the line never changes
No matter how the deception may fly
There is one thing that has always been true
It will be true forever

He has never let you down
Why start to worry now?
He is still the Lord of all we see
And He is still the loving Father
Watching over you and me

watching over you...watching over me..
watching over every things..
watching over you..watching over me..
every little sparrow..every little things...

Our God Reigns! I don't feel better yet but I plan to soon.

3 months from today!!

Three months from today will be a Saturday too. I'll probably be up and dressed by now and making sure all our ducks are in a row.

We plan to address the invitations soon.

Here I am between two of Marisa's bridemaids, Kaelyn-her sister and Rachel- her cousin. We got out outfits altered.

The beautiful bride to be and her equally beautiful maid of honor met us there to join in on the fun. Here they are in front of the alteration place.Marisa is checking things off her list. She is very organized and it is a pleasure to be able to help her in anyway I can.

4 months

Can you believe it is just 4 months til the wedding? Here is one of Marisa's flower girls, Haven, in her flower girl dress. She loved wearing it around the house. Isn't she darling? I told her she'll need dentures soon if she keeps losing teeth. She just laughed.
