Daniel and Rebecca take a trip, Part I

I married Daniel Boone.  I married a man that loves to travel and he married a girl that loves to stay home.  I love being Rebecca Boone.  My job is to hold down the fort while Daniel is out in the wilderness exploring new things.  Now that the children are grown, Daniel likes for Rebecca to join him on a trip every now and again.  Another problem is that Rebecca does NOT like to fly.

Well, Daniel and Rebecca Carl and I headed off last week to the California!!!!  We first flew to Houston and then to Oakland.  Houston to Oakland is a LONG flight!
The great thing Carl did about our flights was that I didn't have to change planes.  Because of my back I am unable to walk thru an airport without resting many, many times.  Most times the folks that push the wheel chairs are wonderful but I have also had The Grinch's brother and that leaves an impression on you and not a good one!
Here I am on the ground in Houston with the 4 other folks from LR that are also flying to Oakland.  Darren McFadden- former AR running back that now plays for Oakland Raiders- was one of the four.  I thought I recognized him in the line to board and then Houston Nutt- former AR coach- got off the plane we were to board and fondly greeted him.

My sweet Kaitlin made me a wonderful playlist.  It helped with the turbulence.
Here is the van Carl rented.

Here is me as we crossed the Bay Bridge.  There were 11 lanes of traffic that had to fit into 4.  I went to my happy place and thanked God Carl was driving!!!!!!!
 Here is the Bay Bridge!
Being the technology sound person that I am I uploaded a video below that I can't delete.  If you can get it to play enjoy!!
 More pictures and stories tomorrow!

Do you take pictures of power lines?

Carl just got home from a business trip to Ireland and Scotland. I down loaded his pictures to my computer this morning. He hopes to sit down with Kaitlin and me tonight and tell us what he took pictures of. I glanced at a few pictures as I was downloading them. Here are a few that I believe I know what they are.

What electrical engineer can go on a trip and not take pictures of power lines?? I am sure Carl will tell us the super specialness of these lines but I laughed when I saw this.

Kaitlin was thrilled when she heard that Carl saw this. She studied this in Art History I.
St Andrew's

Carl got to tour this. We know that the Munro's fought at Bannockburn.
Robert Munro of Foulis fought at Bannockburn. The Munros have held lands in Cromarty since 1126. How cool is that?!? Carl got to meet Mrs Munro, who lives in the house that is built on the grounds where the Foulis castle stood. Her son is the head of the clan. She told Carl that her son lives in an old farm house out back. Yea, old farm house out back, Carl said that it is bigger than anything we will ever even think of having!!We are so glad to have Carl back home. That was a long three weeks.

Business in the front, Party in the back

Here is my stack of books. I finished The Girl Who Chased the Moon.

The book was set in Bodoni, a typeface designed by Giambattista Bondoni. He originally based his letter forms on those of the Frenchman Fournier and created his type to have beautiful contrasts between light and dark. About six months ago the above wouldn't have meant much to me but since Kaitlin has ventured into Graphic Design, it does.

Anyhoo, the book was wonderful like all that authors are.

Today I will be out of our room, sitting in a lobby somewhere until Carl is finished with his meeting. I plan to finish 100 Cupboards and get back into So Brave, Young and Handsome.

The grounds all around are beautiful

The carpet in my room has a 3-d look
Here are the culprits, I mean the folks that every day at 4 shoot off a canon. They march all around the place with the drums and the flag. I so appreciate the notice to run and hide so that the canon doesn't make me jump ten feet in the air like it did the first day.
One of my college friends, Sheila, dropped by after work to see us.
We ate supper near Orange Beach. We saw lots of buses full of folks cleaning up the oil. Folks at Carl's meetings had trouble getting rental cars because BP has most of them.
More things set up to clean up the Gulf
Beautiful evening. Carl took this beside the restaurant where we ate supper. Some of Carl's colleagues wanted to go to the FloraBama mullet toss after supper, but, oh well, we had to get back. Those pictures would have been fun!

Alabama the Beautiful

I am on a business trip with Carl. He is in meetings all day and I am left to my own devices.

Here is a picture of the fruit I had today. It was very good.

This was lunch today. Wonderful chicken salad and a pot of decaf hot tea. I sweeten the tea and pour it over ice and drink it the rest of the day.
The maid cleaned the bathroom and organized all our toiletries. I felt a little like we were at WDW.
I sat on a swing for about an hour today with this as my view.
Carl getting ready to go to his meeting.
The desk with my handwork. I work here awhile, then read ( I meant to get a picture of the books I brought) then get on my computer. The only down side is 'they' fire off a canon every afternoon at 4. I jumped a foot yesterday. Today I plan to get under the covers and pillows!
Lunch yesterday. That was the best hamburger I have ever had!
The sunset on Sunday night. We are on the coast of AL. No oil but there are three sets of booms to keep the oil away from the land. I love being in Alabama. I love hearing southern accents and seeing cars with AUBURN tags. I really enjoy how friendly the folks are here. Feels like home.

Carl, I'd like to bring the whole family here sometime!

Now I need to go to Topeka.

This is Carl and some of his children on Father's Day just before we got in the van to go.

This is me in Kansas with my friend, Linda. She and I have been friends for 29 years. Our husbands used to work for the same company. She drove over from MO and met us for breakfast and a wonderful visit. I know you all want a pair of sunglasses like mine but these are one of a kind I'm sure. John gave then to me for Christmas. I can't decide if I look like Willy Wonka or Audrey Hepburn. What do you think?

We saw several of these as we drove down the highway.

When you travel from Little Rock to Omaha, you go north to Fayetteville then into Mo. We made a detour around Kansas City, Mo so I could go to the state of Kansas, but most normal folks would just continue to the top to Mo and then the interstate takes you into Iowa. There are several bridges into NE before you get to Omaha. We tried to go to Lincoln and then Omaha. Lincoln is about 46 miles south west of Omaha. But we couldn't because all the bridges until Omaha were closed because of flooding. The flooding is vast and we just saw a tiny part of Iowa.

Capitol building in Lincoln

Guess who they have a statue of ?

I do believe there are more red vehicles in NE than any other state I've been in, with a great concentration of then in Lincoln.

This one is for Sue and Jeff. Here is where the Cornhuskers play.
