Not sure I agree with the quote from Jesus through Middle Eastern Eyes 100% that Carolyn sites. True: we do learn more in the storms of life than we do in the peaceful breezes of life. However, I think God would rather us flee an upcoming hurricane then remain in danger. We gotta use our common sense!! Other than that, the excerpt does seems to make a good point that survivors often have a more grateful heart than those who run away.
I agree we need to use common sense with physical storms. I think some folks run away from storms like grief or confrontation-physically and emotionally.
