Kennesaw Mountain National Park, Jeopardy, and family

In August of 1994 my mother was given 24 months to live.  She had an aortic aneurysm that the doctors couldn't operate on because of her lung capacity or lack there of.  Because of homeschooling and Carl's travel schedule we were able to move in with her for months at a time.  Mother lived 19 months.

Those months were so precious.

Some folks warned me that I would not be able to go back to the places I went with Mother when she was dying because they would make me sad.  I am thankful that those places bring back such sweet memories of laughter and fun.

Everyday that Mother felt like it, we would go for a walk in a National Park near her house, Kennesaw Mountain National Park.

Recently I was able to go to Atlanta for a few days. I stayed with my brother, John, and his wife, Elaine.  I saw Andrew and Taylor too and had supper with my brother, Charles, and his wife, Frances.

John and Elaine took me to Kennesaw Park.  We walked along the path that I walked with my mama 18 years ago.  The park is getting ready for the 150 anniversary of the Civil War battles that took place here so everything is very neat and clean.  In the picture below is the Illinois monument.  It was dedicated 50 years after the battle-1914.  My mother came to this park as a little girl.
The dogwoods in the park were spectacular.  It was such a beautiful day.
After the park we went to the cemetery that our parents and one brother are buried in plus a ton of relatives.  Our people have been in this part of Georgia for a long time.
Taylor picked me up on Thursday afternoon to head down to AUBURN for the A-day game.  She took our picture before we left.  I am so thankful for my family!
In case you are ever on Jeopardy and the answer is Kenesaw Mountain Landis ...The question is Who was the first baseball commissioner?  He was born at the base of the mountain, in case you were wondering!
