Vidalia Onion Dip or how to act a fool

I've written this before but didn't have the recipe so if you have heard this story just skip down to the recipe.

... I was at a clothes party, like a Tupperware party but for clothes.  If you know me at all you know that I am not a clothes horse and if we could all be assigned uniforms, as long as it were comfy, I'd be happy.  I was at this party because a good friend invited me and there I was.

...they had refreshments
...it was this wonderful onion casserole plus a few other things.
...I got a HUGE spoonful and then had to hunt for a spoon to eat it with ( should have been a clue)
...I sat down to visit with many strangers to wait my turn to try on clothes (yipee)
...I was horrified to realize that every other person had the same casserole but they were eating it as a dip!!! there were chips right by it, no wonder I had trouble finding a spoon.  I wanted to run and hide.  I tried to causally get up and walk quietly over to the chips and get a few for the few bites I had left on my plate.
...I left soon after that
...I didn't buy any clothes
...I now always label the dips I serve, just in case

Here's the yummy recipe- good enough to eat by the spoonful!!!

Vidalia Onion Dip

2 large Vidalia onions chopped
1 c grated cheese
1/2 c grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 c mayo

preheat oven to 350
mix everything together in a bowl.  Pour into a baking dish.  Bake until the cheese has melted, about 20 minutes.  Serves 10, unless you have a nut that eats it with a spoon

Saying Hello and Goodbye

September 8 was a big party day here at the Funroes!  Kaitlin, Bri and Jill fixed lots of yummy food and we ate and ate and ate and watched football.  Robert brought Rachel home for us to visit with too.  I was still in my post surgery la la land so I just have a few pictures, I am amazed that I have any!!

Jill fixed chocolate chip cookies and she used avocado in place of the butter.  They were great. I kept telling folks that she used guacamole!!!  Jill would just smile and say "She means avocado." Oh, well.

This is Mississippi sin dip- not sure what's in it but it was yummy!

Here is a pictures of the cookies

Kaitlin did lots of cooking

Carl did some work while he helped cook too.

Sweet Jill was a great addition to our family.  I will claim her as a daughter any time!!  She moved in with another family a week ago.  They are in for a wonderful blessing.  We plan to meet once a week for supper and a good visit.  She has a craft day planned over here too.  We miss her very much.

We helped her with few loads and to get settled into her new home.

We wonder who God will move into our house next?!?

Food , Fun and Fellowship

Some friends joined us at our house last night for supper and game playing. I usually dread the 26th because most of the hoopla is over so I planned a party. We ate a meal that Carl's mama cooked and we all love. After supper we played Telephone-Picturary.

First the meal. Pork tenderloin cooked for an hour at 350, then add sauerkraut and hot dogs and cook for another hour. Serve this with creamed potatoes and applesauce. This is best eaten in layers so that you get every flavor in each bite. Yum yum. I usually serve this with green beans so that we have some green with all the bland colors. Marisa is allergic to pork so I put a chicken breast in a dish and cooked it with some sauerkraut. She said that it was great.

Now the game- We had 9 folks playing so each person got 9 pieces of paper. First number each piece of paper . We did. 1-9. On the first piece of paper you write a sentence- any sentence. Then you pass the entire group of papers, in our case that was 9 pieces. So now you have a new group of papers. You read the sentence and you draw a picture describing want you just read. Then you pass that group on until you have written or draw on every group of papers. Then we go through and read the groups to see the sequence. It is hilarious.

A recipe that will feed a crowd

We had two parties this weekend. One on Saturday night and another on Sunday night. Saturday night was a party for the families of the children that Marisa babysits for on a regular basis. They all enjoyed seeing her room. The girls and mamas loved that it was PINK. In my cleaning over the summer I came across the Fisher Price toys that my children played with as youngsters. Kaitlin had a blast setting up the house, garage and the firehouse with all the people, dogs and cars etc. The children were delighted with the toys.

We ate a meal I learned when I was living in the Home Management House at AUBURN. My friend, Barbara Peake, served it and it is a family favorite. My children call it Hawaiian Pile-on.

Cooked Chicken in cream of chicken or chicken broth
rice
coconut
chow mien
pineapple
onion
and sometime almonds

You can make the recipe as big or as small as you need.
I put the toppings out in bowls and let my guests add as they wish. I usually serve this with whole green beans and sister shubert rolls.

Try it, they will like it.

More on the second party after pt
